The Native American Rehabilitation Association of the Northwest (NARA NW) has been providing traditionally based services and supports for American Indians and Alaska Natives for over 50 years. In 1970, a small group of American Indian and Alaska Natives realized that there was a need to offer hope and recovery for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN) struggling with addictions. NARA NW was created to address this need and to assure that AI/AN could access services that were offered by AI/AN. Since that time, NARA NW has evolved to include residential and outpatient substance abuse treatment, physical health care, mental health care, family support services, and a range of traditional activities and supports.
NARA NW’s role with the DRLN began at the conception of the DRLC, to provide appropriate language and gain trust within the Native community as it pertains to disaster preparedness, disaster resiliency, food sovereignty, and harvest of traditional medicines. NARA NW provides support and guidance to help other agencies meet their needs.
